In Zones 3 and 7 of Guatemala City, residents face disproportionately high rates of gender-based violence and exclusion from the formal economy.
Creamos is on a mission to change this.
We believe in creating a society where all people have the access and security they need to achieve self-determination.
This means everyone has the resources, skills, and opportunity to decide their own futures.
By leveraging community wisdom, Creamos is creating long-lasting change.
Through four interconnected programs, we’ve developed intentional participant pathways for holistic personal and professional development.
Workforce Development
The Workforce Development Program prepares participants for the formal workforce through vocational skills training and work readiness support to bolster their professional development and employability.
Accelerated Education
The Accelerated Education Program provides free and accredited schooling to adult and adolescent learners who experienced socioeconomic barriers to completing traditional education earlier in life.
Emotional Support
Creamos Voces, our Emotional Support Program, expands access to mental health and psycho-educational services for individuals impacted by gender-based violence and their associated challenges.
Income Generation - mi eelo
mi eelo, Creamos’ income-generating program, creates opportunities for community members to earn a stable income in a safe and supportive environment.
Meet the Team
Our Roots
Like all great stories, ours begins with a group of women who challenged the status quo.
They grew up in a community with limited resources and even fewer opportunities for safe and consistent work. In 2008, these women decided this wasn’t the reality their children would inherit. After learning how to make jewelry out of recycled paper from a local university program through Safe Passage’s Adult Education Program, these women decided to pursue the craft and sell their products to generate an income. They called their entrepreneurial initiative Creamos, which means “we create”, “Let’s Believe” in Spanish.
Since then, their initiative has grown into much more than they ever imagined. Today, Creamos accompanies hundreds of adults, in all phases of life, out of dangerous work towards a healthier future. Through programs that target pervasive gender inequities and economic insecurity, Creamos combats low education levels, high rates of gender-based violence, and structural exclusion from the formal employment sector.
