This May, we are reflecting on the complex realities of motherhood.
For many women we work with, motherhood arrived early and under difficult circumstances. Some became mothers as teenagers; others while in relationships marked by violence or control. Many entered motherhood while navigating poverty, displacement, or the weight of intergenerational trauma.
These mothers carry the profound responsibility of raising the next generation, often with limited support and within systems not designed to hold them. They make daily sacrifices—setting aside their own education, rest, and dreams—to ensure their children have what they need.
And yet, we also see their strength: mothers who return to school while caring for young children; who leave abusive relationships to create safer futures for their families; who invest in themselves through therapy, parenting workshops, and job training. We see mothers who refuse to let their circumstances define what's possible.
Reflecting on Mother's Day, we honor the mothers and all caregivers in our community. We recognize the full weight of what they carry and the courage it takes to keep moving forward. We also recommit ourselves to creating the conditions that allow mothers to be more than caregivers: to be students, professionals, and individuals with their own aspirations and futures.
Because no woman should have to choose between motherhood and her own future. Thank you for supporting the work that allows mothers and caregivers to be more. |

Take a moment to reflect on the mothers or other caregivers in your life. What did they carry that you may not have seen? What dreams did they set aside? Breathe in with gratitude for all that they do or have done. Breathe out with a hope that all mothers and caregivers receive the support they deserve — not just on one day, but every day. | |

Motherhood and Womanhood:
A Day of Reflection and Community |
|
|
|
This month, Creamos hosted a Mother's Day gathering for the mothers and women in our community — a day designed not just to celebrate, but to create space for connection and recognition beyond the daily roles they carry.
Through activities like tote bag painting, self-care practices, a talent show, and film discussion, participants reflected on motherhood, womanhood, and the importance of being seen as full people — not only for what they do for others, but for who they are. It was a day of listening, mutual support, and building the kind of community where women can show up as themselves. |

mi eelo reaches a major milestone |
mi eelo has completed its largest order to date: 10,000 custom bags for Subaru!
The order came through MaCher, a creative agency specializing in internationally branded products that generate social impact. This marked a milestone for our social enterprise, not only because of the volume, but also because of what it represents: dozens of hands working with precision, dedication, and pride in every stitch. Congratulations to the entire mi eelo team! |

Team Moms: Collective Care in Practice |
Moms on staff got to participate in the festivities as well! For Mother's Day, the women on staff without children organized a surprise: a morning of face masks, nail painting, hair styling, and breakfast together.
It was a small gesture that held larger meaning: a recognition of the maternal labor that often goes unacknowledged, and a reminder that care shouldn't flow in only one direction. The mothers on staff bring wisdom, steadiness, and nurturing presence to Creamos every day. This morning was an opportunity to return that care.
These moments remind us that community is built through reciprocity — through seeing one another fully and showing up in ways that honor what each person carries. |

Wanna know the best way to support Creamos? |
Last week was Monthly Giving Awareness Week — a reminder that nonprofits like Creamos depend on the steady support of recurring donors to sustain our work. |
|
|
|
They fund specific projects, measurable outcomes, and deliverables that fit neatly into reports. What they rarely fund are the salaries of the psychologists who show up every week, the teachers who adapt lessons to each student's needs, the coordinators who answer late-night calls, or the utilities that keep the doors open. Monthly donors fill that gap.
Recurring donations give us the financial stability to plan beyond the next grant cycle, to invest in our team, and to respond to the needs that don't fit into funding applications, but are essential to the work. A monthly contribution — even $5, $10, or $15 — helps us build the foundation that everything else rests on: the people and the space that make Creamos what it is.
Will you become a monthly donor? Your commitment means we can focus less on chasing the next grant and more on showing up consistently for the people who walk through our doors. |
